3 or 4 years ago, Gerard Way had one of the longest lines of rabid fans at comic-con, so I wouldn't call it "all of a sudden". I don't care much for them, but I've been hearing about them for years.

I'm not a fan of MCR, but I've always know them to be popluar.

Where's the, "They are selling themselves out onto MTV and other media" option?

I absolutely love MCR. Always have, and I never kept it a secret. They have quite a strong emo following (which is kind of unfortunate that their fans are emos).

Saw on TV that some o' their stuff will be featured in Gran Turismo 5 (or some other highly anticipated racing game).

hmm didnt expect this much bad blood for that group here on deviantart. now, back in MY day they were mainstream rubbish like anything else on the radio. but that new song of theirs i can actually tolerate. i dunno, could just be me being hipster in some way
