Another from the latest commission batch that I've just been given the go-ahead to post. This was originally going to be a promotional image for the upcoming Darwin Faeries series, but surprise!!! now it's going to be the cover. Such a development is certainly appreciated, and I'm quite ecstatic to see such occur!
This is also one of those rare images where I didn't use any photographic reference for the textures. It's all hand-painted, and for something this ornate, it was quite a feat. But Nathan had a definitive gameplan in executing this image, so I had to adhere to his given references and directions as best as I could, meaning I could stray away from his intended vision by throwing any random texture in place. So while this resulted in taking some extra time to get every detail nudged delicately into place, it also gave me the opportunity to grow artistically and develop even further comfort with highly detailed images.
I also love how the log turned out.
I know, the log doesn't even play a role in the image, but come on! Look at that log! LOOK AT IT!
Redhead wins, blonde cant bring that sword down before redhead's dagger is pushed up through her diaphragm. Plus red could probably block the blow as well with her sword. /over-analysed

But yea, lovin' the log.
