About two months ago, =StacyRaven sent me a note via the *color-me-club. She suggested that for our next contest, we make it into a charity event, and she gave a few examples of web-oriented organizations seeking to better humanity. The idea was to make the contest's theme 'Impaired,' and it would benefit the Do1Thing.org movement.
The idea was proposed well before the theme selection contest even started, but =StacyRaven had already won with the concept.
I decided, as curator of the *color-me-club, to give a special twist to the contest. For every entry received, the *color-me-club would donate two dollars to Do1Thing. I was expecting a strong turnout in May's 'Impaired' lineart contest, but unfortunately, the number of entries received was well below average. Thinking that this great idea for a contest wasn't going to live up to expectations, I soldiered through the voting portion of the lineart contest, also receiving WELL below an average quantity of votes, and this lineart was chosen.
Resoundingly.
By a tremendous margin. And I mean tremendous. Unlike any difference I'd ever seen. So I figure, hey, if there's any excitement regarding this contest, there's solace in seeing an almost unanimous decision amongst several dozen voters for these lines by =Estheryu.
But that wasn't the contest's highlight. That was the turning point.
It has only been two weeks since the color contest has kicked off. On average, 30% of entries received in a contest are sent within the first half of the month. For the June 'Impaired' Color Contest, =Estheryu's lines have gotten a record number of entries. This is compliments to word of the charity contest being spread, and to a number of people expressly interested in contributing to the club's donation to the Do1Thing organization.
So regarding the 2-dollar-per-entry donation? I might end up eating Ramen for the next few weeks, but thanks to the high quality of entries I've seen so far (my GOD, you guys are so talented it's OBSCENE) and the hugely positive response projected by the club's members, it's totally worth it.
Bah, a Playstation3's overrated anyway.
Anywho.
This is my contribution to the contest. As the club administrator, I'm not going to enter it into the voting portion of the contest. I color it for my own practice, to show my own gratitude to =Estheryu for participating, to =StacyRaven for the great idea, to the Do1Thing.org website, and to the dozens of members who, too, have done their one thing for homeless youth by participating.
They've done their one thing. Have you? Contest is still open, guys. Hint-hintiddy-hint-hint.
