To pass some time this morning, I brought out the wacom and decided to try coloring an image the way I used to, and then try to apply some of the techniques I learned at Red Giant. The idea of this image was to make something very soft, so it still looks a lot like what I made when working on lineart by El Guerro and Pablocomics. So, I went to my favorite and fastest-growing coloring source, and compliments of the ~color-me-club comes this image. [link]

While working on this one, my dad came over my shoulder and asked "so who drew that?" I wince at the screen, reading the top of the file, and slowly answer "Liquid-Kaka". Across the room, mom breaks down laughing.

Holy shit my hand hurts after writing for awhile....how much did your hand hurt after that?

But I love the emotion.

A good artist will know how to hold their utensil in a way that doesn't summon the carpal tunnel syndrome. When writing on paper, you write with your wrist. All the motion is at the base of the hand. It's also constantly applying downward pressure. With a wacom, it's mostly diagonal pressure, as the pen is held in a triangular grip with the three points being the thumb, pointer, and middle finger holding the pen nearly horizontal. All the motion is done comfortably at the elbow, allowing for more solid, long strokes, and doesn't hurt.

Thanks for the comment.

Thank you. I'm definitely digging the color on this, but I attribute most of the image's feel to getting a solid piece of lineart to work with.
